School compliance and inspection readiness

Every duty your school carries, in one daily view

Your personal compliance PA. It knows your school and the framework it answers to, shows you what needs your attention and why, and keeps you current as the rules change. You decide; it keeps the record.

For Heads of independent schools, academies and maintained schools in England, and British international schools.

No card required. Full access for 21 days, then €1,140 a year (excl. VAT) if you stay. That is our launch price.

The Head's Desk: each part of the school's standards shown as a card, coloured green, amber or red by status.
The daily RAG view: every part of the standards at a glance. Shown with a fictional school.

Your school's data is entered by the school. The Companion is not designed for pupil records or safeguarding case material, and schools must not enter them.

What you get

Everything the school must do, in one place

Every statutory duty your school carries, in one live register built on the Independent School Standards, the statutory duties of maintained schools, the Ofsted inspection toolkits, the Standards for British Schools Overseas and KCSIE, each with its status and owner.

MetApproachingOverdue

One home screen. Green, amber and red across the whole school, so a Head can see in seconds what needs attention today.

Training tracker

Safeguarding and mandatory staff training in one view, so a lapse shows early and renewal dates stay in view.

Policies and publication

The statutory policies your school must hold and publish, tracked with review dates, so your website and files stand up to scrutiny.

Governance records

Minutes, registers and governance documents kept in order and in one place, ready for the day someone asks to see them.

Readiness self-evaluation

A structured self-evaluation across the areas inspectors focus on, so you know where you stand before they tell you.

The regulatory horizon

Statutory and guidance changes tracked for you and shown before they become compulsory, then folded into the register, so a change is in view before it binds.

Documents where you need them

Attach each policy or piece of evidence to the duty it satisfies, and print a clean evidence folder when someone asks to see it.

Meet KEN

Ask where the school stands, and why

KEN, the Knowledge and Evidence Navigator, is the Companion's assistant, included for every school. Ask KEN where the school stands, why something matters and what to do next. It reads your own records: statuses, dates, owners, training, governance and the calendar.

It works from sourced requirements, drawn from the regulations and statutory guidance themselves; where your record is incomplete, it asks, or marks the gap plainly for you to confirm.

Policies, with KEN

Your policies, checked, corrected and written

  • Check a policy

Upload a statutory policy in one of the seven areas KEN covers and get a row-by-row report against the sourced requirements that apply to your school, citing the regulation each finding rests on.

  • Redraft a policy

A policy that has fallen behind comes back as a corrected redraft: what already meets the standards is kept in your school's own voice, what does not is fixed, what is missing is added.

  • Write a new policy

Starting from nothing, KEN asks you how your school actually works, then drafts the policy around your answers, structured around the requirements that apply to your school.

Complaints standards are editorially approved; the other six policy areas use draft standards, so their findings are provisional. Every check and every draft is saved to your school's review history, with owner notes and sign-off. The published regulations remain authoritative and the judgement is always your school's.

Questions

Questions about The Head's Companion

What does The Head's Companion help a school manage?

The Head's Companion brings statutory duties, responsible staff, policies, training records and supporting evidence into a school compliance dashboard. It helps school leaders see what needs attention and maintain records for governance and inspection preparation.

Which schools is it for?

The Head's Companion is for independent schools, academies and maintained schools in England, and British international schools. The register is organised around the requirements relevant to the school's profile.

Is it designed for pupil records?

The Head's Companion is not designed for pupil records or safeguarding case material, and schools must not enter them. If an uploaded document contains pupil personal data, it is processed as part of that document under the data processing terms and deleted with it.
